Marijuana, also known as cannabis, is a plant-based substance derived from Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica plants. Its main psychoactive component, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), produces effects that can include relaxation, euphoria, altered senses, and sometimes heightened sensory experiences. Marijuana is used recreationally for these effects, as well as medicinally to relieve pain, nausea, anxiety, and other symptoms in conditions such as chronic pain, cancer, and epilepsy.

Marijuana can be consumed in various ways, including smoking, vaping, edibles, oils, or topical applications. Its legal status varies globally, with some places allowing its recreational and/or medical use, while others still classify it as an illegal substance.
